The Quick Guide to Hemostasis, Third Edition, is a comprehensive update of the Quick Guide to Coagulation Testing, Second Edition. The third edition continues as a readily available pocket reference for health practitioners who order, collect, perform, or interpret hemostasis tests and who administer hemostasis therapy.
The Guide outlines common hemorrhagic and thrombotic conditions together with their respective assays to emphasize accurate laboratory evaluation. Treatment discussions include the prophylactic and therapeutic use of nonbiologic, synthetic, and plasma-derived components to control bleeding, and antithrombotics that prevent or resolve arterial and venous occlusions.
The Guide expands on a series of “front-end” quick-access tables that summarize hemostasis assays and therapies with their reference intervals and therapeutic ranges. Platelet function and antiplatelet drug testing details have been added. The third edition reflects current practice standards as it describes the management of trauma-induced coagulopathy, thromboelastography, and laboratory measurement of the new direct oral anticoagulants.
